About Government Medical College

Established in 1951, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram (GMC TVM) is one of the oldest and most prestigious medical institutions in Kerala. Affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences, it stands as a beacon of excellence in medical education, research, and patient care.

Spread over 100 acres in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, the institution comprises a 2500-bed tertiary care hospital that serves as a referral center for South Kerala. Academic Programs

We offer comprehensive medical education programs from undergraduate to super-specialty levels, following the curriculum prescribed by the National Medical Commission.

Undergraduate (MBBS)

5.5-year program with 250 seats annually. Comprehensive training in basic and clinical sciences with early clinical exposure and community medicine postings.

Postgraduate (MD/MS)

32 broad and super-specialty programs across clinical and preclinical departments. 3-year residency with rigorous training and research components.

Duration: 3 Years Specialties: 32

Super-Specialty (DM/MCh)

Advanced training in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, and other super-specialties. 3-year program with focus on complex care.

Admissions 2024-25

Admissions to various courses are based on national and state-level entrance examinations as per Government of Kerala guidelines.

Eligibility: Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with minimum 50% marks (40% for reserved categories). Minimum age 17 years.

Selection: Through NEET-UG conducted by National Testing Agency. State quota seats filled through Kerala NEET counseling.

Important Dates:

  • NEET-UG Exam: May 5, 2024
  • Application Start: January 2024
  • First Counseling: August 2024
NEET Official Website

Eligibility: MBBS degree with permanent registration from NMC. Completed one-year internship.

Selection: Through NEET-PG conducted by National Board of Examinations. 50% seats through All India Quota, 50% through State quota.

Specialties Offered: General Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, Radiology, Anesthesiology, etc.

B.Sc Nursing: 4-year program with 60 seats. Admission through KEAM conducted by Commissioner of Entrance Examinations, Kerala.

Paramedical Courses: Diploma and degree programs in Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Operation Theatre Technology.
